The 180 - 390 metre wide asteroid 2012 QG42 will make a close pass (57.5 lunar distances, 0.14778 AU), travelling at 7.89 km/second, to the Earth on the 8th April 2018 @ 09:44 UT ±00:01.

Close asteroid encounter tonight exposes potential hazard

This relatively large 625 feet to 1,400 feet wide body will zip by no closer than about 7.5 times the distance to the moon (1.8 million miles). Officially, it has been designated a "potentially hazardous asteroid" (PHA) by the Minor Planet Centre, applied to any asteroid (or comet) which may pose a threat (though this one does not).

An asteroid passes close to Earth during the night between Thursday and Friday.

Vasteras Astronomers get the chance to photograph the celestial body with the large telescope of Akestaobservatoriet outside Västerås. The asteroid, with the scientific name 2012 QG42, is only a few hundred meters in diameter, but passing only about 270,000 mil above the ground.

The 230 - 520 metre wide asteroid 2012 QG42 will make a close pass (7.4 lunar distances, 0.0191 AU), travelling at 11.04 km/second, to the Earth-Moon system on the 14th September, 2012 @ 05:10 UT ±00:12.
