Drexel professor Dr. Ken Lacavera said farmers can be credited with some of the fossil discoveries at the site. Marl, a green lime-rich mud, covers the floor of the giant pit. When farmers realised that marl can be used as a fertiliser, some started digging and were amazed by what they found. The very ground residents were standing on during Lacavera's presentation, 65 million years ago, was much warmer and had much higher CO2 levels.
