The 54-pound meteorite has not been shown since it was on display at Norton & Ekman's Drug Store in Oroville during 1894, when more than 500 people stopped by to view the "visitor from outer space." The meteorite survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake while housed at the California Academy of Science despite being charred on one side by the fire. It was subsequently put on loan but due to mislabelling was lost until 1964 when it was rediscovered at The British Museum, identified from previous slices, and returned it to the California Academy.
