A magnitude 15.8 type IIn supernova, 2012ab, was discovered on the 31st January, 2012, in the galaxy 2MASX J12224762+0536247 in the constellation Virgo, by the ROTSE collaboration.
The supernova is located 0" east and 0" south from the center of the galaxy. 

Position (2000):     RA 12 22 47.60 |  Dec +05° 36' 25.0"

z = ~0.018

Chatzopoulos, University of Texas, on behalf of the ROTSE collaboration, report the discovery of a new supernova (mag about 15.8) in unfiltered images taken on Jan. 31.35 UT with the 0.45-m ROTSE-IIIb telescope at McDonald Observatory.
