Alberta meteorite sparks battle for sacred rock

A 150-kilogram meteorite that fell to earth centuries ago is pitting First Nations people northeast of Edmonton against the Royal Alberta Museum.
To the Cree, "pahpamiyhaw asiniy," is a sacred rock containing the face of the creator, but to scientists, it's a 4.5 billion-year-old meteorite, one of the largest in Canada.

Museum caught in middle of ugly political cat fight

In the centre of the Royal Alberta Museum sits a sacred aboriginal relic, a meteorite known as the Manitou Stone.
For generations, the stone that fell from the sky was venerated by the native peoples of central Alberta and Saskatchewan as a holy object.
When a missionary seized the stone and carted it away, there were dark prophesies that curses would fall upon him.
