Mehrgan is a Zoroastrian and Iranian festival celebrated since the pre-Islamic era to honour the Yazata of "Mehr" (Persian: Mehr or Mihr), which is responsible for friendship, affection and love. The Fasili and Bastani variants of the religious calendar adhere to Gregorian intercalation (leap-day) rules, and therefore Mehregn is celebrated on a day that is fixed in relation to the Gregorian calendar.
