Chinese orbiter fails to enter designated orbit due to rocket's malfunction
China's experimental orbiter SJ-11-04, which was launched by a Long March II-C rocket Thursday evening, failed to enter the designated orbit due to malfunction of the rocket. Source
Chinese authorities have confirmed that the Shi Jian 11-04 "experimental satellite" did not achieve orbit due to a problem with the rocket launcher. The causes of the anomaly was not disclosed. The Portuguese website Em Orbita was the first to reveal the news which was later confirmed by the Chinese media. The Shijian 4.11 was launched at 09:28 UTC, 18 August, 2011, by a Chang Zheng-2C lauch vehicle from the Jiuquan launch complex. This launch comes nearly three weeks after the launch of the third satellite in the series, the Shijian 11-02.
