Near-Earth Asteroid Fly-By Captured By Observatory
Asteroid 2002 AM31 flew by Earth on July 22nd. The Slooh Space Camera in the Canary Islands observatory was on hand to capture the space rock zoom by. It was about 3.2 million miles away on its closest approach.
The 620 - 1400 metre wide asteroid 2002 AM31 will make a close pass (13.7 lunar distances, 0.0351 AU), travelling at 9.55 km/second, to the Earth-Moon system on the 22nd July, 2012 @ 23:39 UT ±00:01.
