Geraldton's old radio telescope has a unique history

A radio telescope dish used in Geraldton in the 1960s has been reinstalled at the Gravity Discovery Centre in Gingin where its rich history will be preserved.
The radio telescope enabled advanced communication between the Carnarvon Tracking Station, Geraldton and NASA in the 1960s.
Made in Alaska, two of the total four dishes were located on a gravel road off Bride Street in central Geraldton.

Government won't buy observatory

Opposition spokeswoman for science and innovation Kate Doust's plea for the State Government to buy the Gingin Observatory fell on deaf ears last week when Minister John Day said it would not happen.
Ms Doust said she approached Mr Day when she heard the facility was up for sale for $165,000 and suggested he look into making an offer.

Observatory for sale

Gingin's view of the stars is for sale, with the owners of the observatory moving out.
Co-owners of the Gingin Observatory Donna Vanzetti and Carol Redford recently decided to sell the business after running it for about four years.
