First meteorite fall of 2011 and first in Poland after Baszkówka in 1994. Single stone weight 1050g hit a house in Soltmany village in NE Poland in the morning 30 aprill 2011. This is remaining Main Mass from this fall.

Gazeta Wyborcza reports that a meteorite fell through the roof of an unsuspecting resident of the Masurian Lakes District in northeastern Poland. The man was smoking his morning cigarette with a cup of coffee when he heard what he then thought was a bomb fall through the roof of his home. The cold rock left a hole in the man's roof and was the first meteorite to land in Poland in 17 years that people were witness to. The incident was recorded by the Polish Meteorite Society and scientists were forced to purchase fragments of the rock for testing as - writes the daily - the man who's house was damaged has decided to make some money off the meteorite rather than give it over to scientific testing. Gazeta Wyborcza writes that there is no law that requires people to hand over meteorites for testing for free, so there is no way to categorise it as an archaeological finding and requisition it.

Wreszcie mamy nowy polski spadek

30 kwietnia 2011 roku (sobota) o godzinie 6.06 rano w okolicy Giycka, we wsi Soltmany, poczta Kruklanki spadl meteoryt. Lecial niemal pionowo, przebil dach w budynku gospodarczym, czyli klasyczny hammer.

Upadek malego meteorytu w Polsce

Rankiem trzydziestego kwietnia niewielki meteoryt spadl na budynek w gminie Kruklanki (powiat giycki, województwo warminsko-mazurskie). Jest to jeden z rzadkich przypadków natychmiastowego wykrycia "kamienia z nieba". Meteoryt okazal sie byc chondrytem.

Meteoryt spadl na gospodarstwo na Mazurach

W dach gospodarstwa pod Kruklankami na Mazurach uderzyl niewielki meteoryt. Zjawisko wywolalo ogromne poruszenie wsród naukowców, bo to pierwszy w Polsce od 17 lat okruch planetoidy odnaleziony natychmiast po spadku na ziemie.
Meteoryt, który spadl we wsi Soltmany way ok. kilograma i ma wielkosc ludzkiej piesci. Najprawdopodobniej jest to kamienny chondryt, pochodzacy z planetoid kraacych miedzy Marsem a Jowiszem.

Meteorite lands on roof, northern Poland

A meteorite weighing about a kilogramme smashed into the roof of a Masurian agro-tourism farm in the village of Sotmany, near Kruklanki, northern Poland.
Nobody was hurt but some damage was done to the roof.
Parts of the meteorite, which descended on Saturday causing some damage to a barn roof, was recovered by astronomers from Olsztyn, and will be examined by Professor Tadeusz Przylibski from Wrocaw Technical University. Then it will be handed over to the Nicolas Copernicus Museum in Frombork or to the Planetarium in Olsztyn.
