Experts believe a meteor was visible along a large section of the Florida skyline on Thursday night, 29th September, although NASA officials have not confirmed what the intensely bright, fast object exactly was.

The glowing orb was spotted around 7 p.m (local time); some who saw it called county and state officials to ensure that it wasn't a crashing aircraft.

"This one could've been from a baseball to a basketball-sized chunk of space rock that slammed into our Earth's atmosphere at a very high speed" - Jack Horkheimer, director of the planetarium at the Miami Museum of Science.

National Weather Service meteorologist Barry Baxter said he isn't sure if the object, which he believes was a meteor, was over Atlantic Ocean waters or the Florida peninsula.
Bob Cooper, 48, of Dania Beach was in his back yard throwing a Frisbee to his dog when the object - which he described as a flaming ball - caught his eye.

"All of a sudden this thing shot from my right. And it was super fast, so you know it was in a hurry. It turned from orange to the-centre-of-the-sun yellow then it disintegrated" - Bob Cooper.

Residents from the state's Space Coast region all the way to South Florida reported seeing the object.

This is the second such event to have happened in short period of time. Another fireball was spotted on the 22nd.

NASA will determine what direction the object was travelling.

Dozens of people from Jacksonville to Fort. Pierce flooded the U.S. Coast Guard late Tuesday with calls about a mysterious ball of fire seen flying in the sky.
Callers flooded the newsroom of Local 6 News partner Florida Today after they saw the object over the Space Coast on Tuesday night.

"Starting at about 7:30 last night, we started receiving calls here in the newsroom. In fact, the Coast Guard station in Port Canaveral got more than two dozen reports of people seeing a bright light in the sky over the ocean" - Dave Larimer, Florida Today online news editor.

From Fort Pierce to about five miles south of Jacksonville, reports came in to Coast Guard offices starting about 7:30 p.m., according to Dan Yates, a Coast Guard petty officer in Port Canaveral.
Yates said one caller who was walking his dog near the Sebastian Inlet described the object as "huge, like a giant fireball."
Yates said callers to the Coast Guard station thought a boater might have been in trouble.
"A lot of people thought it might have been a flare that might have gone up," Yates said of other callers.

"One person thought this fire ball went into the ocean. The Coast Guard said it probably didn't and it was just his perspective. We know it was not a rocket launch and we know the Air Force was not doing anything" - Dave Larimer

Experts said it could be a piece of space junk or a large meteor burning up in the atmosphere.
The Coast Guard base near Jacksonville also received calls.
Babs Angel, a public affairs spokeswoman for Patrick Air Force Base, said no local military activity was taking place Tuesday night.
