Woman astronaut to head 100-year Starship project

Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman to go into space in 1992, has been chosen to head the 100-year Starship project.
Jemison's project will explore what it would take for a multi-generational mission beyond the solar system.

DARPA Releases Request for Information for the 100 Year Starship Study

The Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has released a request for Information (RFI) to solicit ideas and information to support its 100 Year Starship Study program. The 100 Year Starship Study is a project seeded by DARPA to develop a viable and sustainable model for persistent, long-term, private-sector investment into the myriad of disciplines needed to make interstellar space travel practicable and feasible.

Scientists at the Johnson Spaceflight Centre haven't let a lack of money stop them from thinking big.
It was exciting news at the time - the US Government hi-tech research lab DARPA and NASA working hand-in-hand to take Earthlings beyond the stars.
It was even given a name - the 100-Year Starship Study.
