You might not know his name, but William Brydone Jack played a huge role in the early days of the University of New Brunswick. He was a man of many talents, one of which was his love of astronomy. To mark his many astronomical achievements, the local chapter of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada applied to have an asteroid named in his honour. Asteroid 79117 Brydone was discovered Aug. 16, 1988, by Carolyn and Eugene Shoemaker. Carolyn Shoemaker is a distinguished American astronomer. Read more
