Margaret River residents have described the moment an earthquake struck the south west town just before midnight last night.
The earthquake measuring 2.3 on the Richter scale rumbled Margaret River overnight about 11.59am last night.
There are no reports of damage but some residents have described the noise sounding like a loud thunderstorm and similar to a meteorite hitting the earth.
