A Preliminary Failure Analysis Team constituted to study the flight data of GSLV-F06, which crashed seconds after its launch on December 25, said that the primary cause of the failure was "the untimely and inadvertent" snapping of a group of 10 connectors located at the base of the Russian Cryogenic stage.
The premature snapping of these connectors stopped the flow of control commands to the core First Stage control electronics, leading to the loss of control and breakup of the vehicle, said a press statement from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday.

India satellite rocket explodes after take-off

An Indian space rocket carrying a communications satellite has exploded on take-off.
Live TV footage showed the rocket disappearing in a plume of smoke moments after its launch in Sriharikota near the city of Chennai (Madras).
India's space organisation said it was investigating the cause of the failure.

This was supposed to be the most exciting Christmas of my life. I was  going to see a GSLV rocket blast off. There was a sizeable number of people at the Satish Dhavan Space Centre in Sriharikota. ISRO officials, security personnel, the media and a few invitees had gathered on the rooftop of the centre. Many locals had also gathered on the rooftops of buildings in the area to witness the take off.

For Vinod Kumar Srivastava, the range safety officer at ISRO rocket launch centre, it was a sad day - in a split second decision, he had to destruct the GSLV rocket that exploded after its launch here Saturday.
He had to press the much-dreaded button - the rocket destruct button - as he found the rocket going off its path and breaking.

ISRO or the Indian Space Research Organisation is all set to launch India's heaviest communication satellite into orbit today. The lift-off of the launch vehicle GSLV-FO6 carrying 2,310 kg GSAT-5P satellite is expected to take place a little after 4 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota. ISRO officials say the countdown is proceeding smoothly.
