China took a further step on Sunday toward ending its dependence on US satellites to provide navigation and positioning services. The Chinese Long-March-3 rocket with the Beidou (Compass) navigation satellite was successfully launched from the Xichang space centre, at 21:30 p.m. GMT, 31st July, 2010.
China will launch its fifth orbiter into space, as part of its satellite navigation and positioning network known as Beidou, or Compass system, in the next few days. Read more
