NASA releases report into space balloon crash

NASA has released its findings from an investigation into the crash of a multi-million dollar space balloon in Alice Springs earlier this year.
The organisation has identified "a flawed underlying assumption" about the safety of balloon launches as one of several key problems which led to the April incident, which almost killed several people watching the launch.

Debris from last week's multi-million dollar NASA balloon crash has found its way to a scrap dealer for $100.
Alice Springs company Metal Recyclers confirmed this week that it had paid for pieces of the space junk.
But scientists behind the ill-fated launch that wiped out two cars in Alice Springs last week denied millions of dollars worth of scientific equipment had been reduced to just $100 worth of scrap metal.

Space balloon rips from mooring

The launch of a giant space balloon went badly wrong Thursday in the Australian Outback when it and its heavy payload of scientific equipment broke from a mooring and dragged across the desert, overturning an SUV and narrowly missing bystanders.
One witness said she felt lucky to be alive after the car-sized, unmanned gondola hanging beneath the balloon careened out of control into the vehicle parked next to hers at the launch site near Alice Springs in central Australia.
