Turkey earthquake: Tremors felt in Istanbul and Athens

A strong earthquake has struck off the Aegean coast of western Turkey and the Greek island of Lesbos, with tremors felt in Istanbul and Athens.
The epicentre of the 6.3 magnitude quake was 5km south of the Greek town of Plomari, south of Lesbos, the US Geological Survey said.
Several buildings in the town were damaged, the mayor said. There were no immediate reports of any casualties.

Eastern Turkey hit by 7.2 magnitude quake

Buildings have collapsed and casualties are reported after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Turkey.
The province of Van, on the border with Iran, appeared to be particularly badly hit with officials warning of damage to buildings and infrastructure.
The quake struck at 13:41 (10:41 GMT), some 17 km north-east Van city, the US Geological Survey said.

Aftershocks "could last for days" following the Turkish earthquake, according to a Durham University expert.

"Aftershocks could last for days and this is a particular danger for people whose homes have been damaged by the earthquake" - Professor Bob Holdsworth of the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience and the Department of Earth Sciences at Durham University.

A strong earthquake has struck eastern Turkey, killing at least 38 people, officials have said.
The 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck the village of Basyurt in Elazig province at 04:32 (02:32 GMT). It was followed by several aftershocks.
The mayor of the town of Kovancilar, Bekir Yanilmaz, said their had been deaths in the nearby villages of Okcular, Yukari Kanatli and Kayali.
