There is little chance the fireball that stunned onlookers as it crossed the sky early Thursday morning north of Winnipeg survived the impact to Earth, said Manitoba Planetarium astronomer Scott Young.
After hearing reports from more than a dozen witnesses throughout Thursday, Young said the fireball, known to astronomers as a bolide, likely landed in northwestern Ontario. He said because of the rough terrain in that area, there is little chance a meteorite survived the impact.

People looking up at the sky early this morning might have seen a strange sight - a fireball, shooting across the sky, which Manitoba Planetarium astronomer Scott Young said might have left debris behind.
There have been numerous reports of people seeing a ball of fire streak across the sky around 6:30 a.m. near the Birds Hill Park area, north of Winnipeg.
