The Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) launched a total of 10 Rohini series indigenous sounding rockets from the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station here and the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota to investigate the effects of the longest annular solar eclipse of this millennium, which occurred on Friday, on the earths atmosphere.

People watched the solar eclipse from different places in India. According to the Scientists this was centurys longest running eclipse. The solar eclipse started at 11.06 and continued till 3.11 pm in the afternoon. Scientists mentioned that at 1.15 pm eclipse was on its peak. This was the rare rest and longest annular solar eclipse of this millennium visible in the southern part of the country.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch a series of rockets from its two launch centres between Thursday and Sunday to study Friday's solar eclipse and its after-effects.
A rare and longest annular solar eclipse of this millennium will occur on Friday visible in the southern part of the country.
ISRO's Thiruvananthapuram based the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) a series of Rohini Sounding Rockets from Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS), to investigate the effects of the solar eclipse on the atmosphere.
