The Northwest Africa 869 (NWA 869) strewn field, was first found in 2000 near Tindouf in Algeria. The regolith breccia meteorites are classified as ordinary chondrites (L4-6). The chemistry of the NWA 869 meteorite shows that it contains carbonaceous inclusions and small flecks of meteoritic metal - iron and nickel. At least 2 metric tons of specimens, that range from less than 1 gram in mass to greater than 20 kilograms, have been found at the strewn field.
