China's Chang'e-2 a success

Chang'e-2, China's second lunar probe has been a huge success and is now the smallest man-made asteroid in the solar system, according to a leading scientist.
The lunar probe, launched on Oct. 1, 2010, has fulfilled its mission and made worthwhile achievements, said Ouyang Ziyuan, chief scientist of China's Lunar Exploration Project, on Sunday.

Chinese Space Probe Flies by Asteroid Toutatis

China's space probe Chang'e-2 has successfully conducted a manoeuvre in which it flew by the asteroid Toutatis, about seven million km away from the Earth.
Travelling in deep space, Chang'e-2 made the flyby on Dec. 13 at 16:30:09 Beijing Time (08:30"09 GMT), the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence (SASTIND) announced on Saturday.

Asteroid 4179 Toutatis' upcoming encounters with Earth and Chang'E 2

Near-Earth asteroid 4179 Toutatis will be passing within 7 million kilometers of Earth on December 12. It's visited us several times before, with a close pass every four years in December.
This particular close approach by Toutatis is extra-special, because Chang'E 2 (China's erstwhile lunar orbiter) is on its way to a flyby, with a close approach on December 13.

The CE-2 in April, has left the L2 [orbit] to investigate an asteroid; a close rendezvous with an asteroid is expected in January next year.

China releases "world's highest resolution" lunar images

China today released a set of "world's highest resolution" lunar images taken by its second moon orbiter, Chang'e-2, as it braces to launch its next mission to land a rover to explore its surface.
China's State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence (SASTIND) today published a set of full coverage map of the Moon and its images with a resolution of seven meters captured by Chang'e-2.
