Regulus , the brightest star in the constellation Leo, is near the waxing crescent moon tonight. It is located below and slightly to the left of the moon. It may be difficult to pick out the star against the moonlight but binoculars will easily show it.
Regulus is on the ecliptic caused it to encounter the moon once a month. It is designated as one of four “royal stars,” along with Aldebaran, Antares, and Fomalhaut , all of which are prominent in a different season.
