The Communist Party of China (CPC) is celebrating its 90th anniversary.
Propagandists have released a torrent of publicity ahead of a ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, attended by the country's top leaders.
Established in July 1921 in Shanghai by a small group of intellectuals, the CPC took power in 1949 after defeating the Nationalist Party in a long civil war.

60th birthday of modern China

Last night, several dozen students gathered on campus to celebrate a very special birthday - the 60th birthday of modern China. The Queens Association of Chinese Studies (QACS) organised Chinese National Day celebrations, which took place in Robert Sutherland Hall. Anyone with an interest in Chinese culture was invited to attend.

Nuclear missile carriers and rocket launchers rumbled past Beijing's Forbidden City today as the Chinese Communist party celebrated 60 years in power with its biggest display of military hardware and a weather-modification package.
With elements of both the cold war and the new economy, the spectacular parade was intended to showcase how China has modernised and opened up since Mao Zedong declared the founding of the People's Republic in 1949.

On Oct. 1st China's Communist Party will celebrate 60 years in power with a gala parade, a show of military might, and a cast of 200,000. Among the Party's proudest achievements is injecting capitalism back into China 30 years ago, and letting the ambition and drive of the Chinese people transform China's economy into one of the world's biggest.

Drive down Beijing's Second Ring Road, and just before you turn toward the Forbidden City, you'll see something incongruous. There, amid the hi-rises and mobile phone ads stands an ancient stone tower, with ancient star-gazing equipment on its roof.
