Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications and the leading provider of commercial satellites, today announced that NSS-12, a satellite built for SES WORLD SKIES, a subsidiary of SES (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange:SESG), is successfully performing post-launch manoeuvres. The satellite deployed its solar arrays Wednesday (TBR) evening, following its launch aboard an Ariane 5 rocket from the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. The satellite's first thruster firing will begin later today, to propel it toward its final geosynchronous orbit.

Last night, an Ariane 5 ECA launcher lifted off from Europes Spaceport in French Guiana on a journey to place two telecommunications satellites, NSS-12 and Thor 6, into geostationary transfer orbits. Flight V192 was the sixth Ariane 5 launch of 2009 and the fourth dual-payload mission.
Liftoff of the 48th Ariane 5 mission took place at the start of the launch window: 21:00 CET (20:00 UTC; 17:00 French Guiana). The target injection orbit had a perigee altitude of 250 km, an apogee altitude at injection of 35 786 km and an inclination of 6º. The satellites were accurately injected into their transfer orbits about 27 and 31 minutes after liftoff, respectively.

Approximately 27 minutes after lift-off the spacecraft separated from the Ariane 5 upper stage and was placed into geostationary transfer orbit. Initial signals from NSS-12 were received at a control station in Uralla, Australia at 8:32 p.m. GMT.
NSS-12 was manufactured by Space Systems/Loral, with launch services on-board Ariane 5 provided by Arianespace. The spacecraft, procured by SES Satellite Leasing Limited in the Isle of Man, is poised to be the 41th satellite in SES' global fleet.
