Energy from osmosis
The Norwegian company Statkraft is building the world's first facility for osmotic power generation. Statkraft says a full-scale commercial osmotic power plant could be ready by 2015.

Osmotic power or salinity gradient power is the energy retrieved from the difference in the salt concentration between seawater and river water. Two practical methods for this are Reverse electrodialysis (RED), and Pressure retarded osmosis (PRO).
Both processes rely on osmosis with ion specific membranes.
