A Kiwi farmer and part time astronomer is over the moon after it was confirmed he discovered a supernova.
The Oxford dairy farmer discovered the exploding star which is a rare event for an amateur astronomer.
Stu Parker had been scanning the skies searching for an elusive dying star for a long time.

A magnitude 15.9 supernova, 2009gj, was discovered on the 20th June, 2009, by S. Parker in the barred spiral galaxy NGC 134 in the constellation Sculptor.
The supernova is located 82" east and 102" north from the center of the galaxy.
As yet the type is unknown.

Position (2000):  RA = 00 30 28.56, Dec = -33°12'56".0
z =  0.005274
