Travel 70 kilometres south west of Toowoomba, look up and find a stargazing paradise.
The sleepy town of Leyburn has a worldwide reputation for its night skies, one which Southern Astronomical Society president Noeleen Lowndes wants to light up in the International Year of Astronomy.
Amateur stargazers from Japan, the Netherlands and America travel to the former goldmining town to take in "the most stunning skies in the world" alongside the NASA representative.
