Update: The missile test was only partly successful
"The representatives of the Ministry of Defence confirmed the successful launch of the newest Bulava sea ballistic missile from the submerged Dmitriy Donskoy atomic submarine. However the launch test can be considered only partially successful: at the end of the missile flight the separation of the warhead did not occur."
Russia successfully fired its newest intercontinental ballistic missile from a submarine located in the White Sea to a target on the Pacific coast 6,700 kilometres. The Bulava missile was fired from the Dmitry Donskoi submarine at 6:45 p.m. MST (14:45UTC) and struck the Kura range on the Kamchatka Peninsula at 7:05 p.m. MST.
The Russian Navy is to conduct a Submarine ballistic missile launch test in the Pacific, between September 15th to September 20th. The missiles are to be launched from Delta IV submarines deployed in the Sea of Okhotsk and the Bering Sea. The missiles will target the Kura test range in Kamchatka.
