Stennis plants 'moon tree'

Despite the freezing temperatures and bone-chilling wind, scores of high school and elementary students showed up at the soon-to-be completed Infinity Science Centre at the Stennis Space Centre in Mississippi Thursday morning to help plant a very special tree that, and to meet a real astronaut, who flew to the moon.
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 14 mission to the moon, the Infinity Centre was given a "moon tree", which is actually an American sycamore. What makes the tree special is that it comes from one of 500 tree seeds that flew on Apollo 14 to the moon and back.

NASA Announces New Rocket Engine Testing Opportunity at Stennis

NASA's Stennis Space Centre in Stennis, Miss., unveiled an initiative today to chart the future of the nation's premier rocket engine testing facility.
Stennis Director Gene Goldman announced plans for the centre to test Aerojet AJ26 rocket engines for Orbital Sciences Corp. as part of a NASA partnership with the companies.

Because of Hurricane Gustav's impact on employees who live in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast in south Mississippi, NASA's John C. Stennis Space Centre will remain closed Wednesday, Sept. 3. The centre will reopen for normal business hours Thursday, Sept. 4.
