Curiosity's Descent

This stop-motion video shows 297 frames from the Mars Descent Imager aboard NASA's Curiosity rover as it descended to the surface of Mars. These thumbnail images were received on Earth on Aug. 6, 2012, and cover the last two and a half minutes of descent.

First Colour Image of the Martian Landscape Returned from Curiosity

This view of the landscape to the north of NASA's Mars rover Curiosity acquired by the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) on the afternoon of the first day after landing (The team calls this day Sol 1, which is the first Martian day of operations; Sol 1 began on Aug. 6, 2012).
In the distance, the image shows the north wall and rim of Gale Crater.

NASA's Curiosity Rover Caught in the Act of Landing

An image from the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera aboard NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured the Curiosity rover still connected to its almost 16 metre parachute as it descended towards its landing site at Gale Crater.

Rover shoots movie during descent

Images that the Curiosity rover took of the surface of Mars as it made its historic descent on Monday (GMT) have now been released.
Nasa has provided almost 300 thumbnails from a sequence of pictures that will eventually be run together as a colour hi-def movie.
Pictures from the Mars Descent Imager (Mardi), even in their thumbnail form, have now allowed engineers to work out Curiosity's precise position on the planet - a latitude of -4.5895 and a longitude of 137.4417.
