Philip II palace digitally recreated
A digital image shows a mosaic in the royal palace belonging to Philip II of Macedon. The two-storey palace lies in the Aiges archaeological site in north-central Greece, near Vergina, in what was then the ancient kingdom of Macedonia. The structure dates to 350-340 BC, with a facade measuring 13.60 metres in length and 78 metres in height, which would make it three times the size of the Parthenon atop the Acropolis in Athens. Research on the excavation work was presented on Wednesday at the National Hellenic Research Foundation, where archaeologists descibed it as the "Parthenon of Macedonia".

A dozen of 28 historical temples submerged in Gobind Sagar lake at Bhakra Dam in Himachal Pradesh would be relocated with the help of the Centre, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said on Thursday.
The CM said that the temples, built during eighth to 19th century, have also been declared as monuments of 'national importance' by the Archaeological Survey of India.

When Julius Caesar arrived off the coast of Britain with his hundred-ship force in August, 55 b.c., he was greeted by a host of defenders poised to hurl spears down on his invading army from the towering Dover cliffs. Seeking a better landing site, he sailed on a strong afternoon current and landed his troops at a beach seven miles away, according to his own account.

Archaeologists from North Sumatra found three stone axes from prehistory period in an excavation in a land fortress site of Putri Hijau in Namorambe village, Deli Serdang regency.
The team consists of Medan Archeology Association, History and Social Sciences Studies Centre of Medan State`s University and Aceh`s Preservation of Archaeological Remains Association conducted the research for five days from October 21 to 25.

The sun glancing sideways on a stone slab led to archaeologists working on St Kilda, the National Trust for Scotlands dual World Heritage Site, making a fascinating discovery.
They spotted a cross inscribed on the slab that had previously gone unnoticed.
Staff from the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) recently visited the island as part of a special project to investigate and record the rich variety of archaeological evidence that exists there.

For the first time in the Middle East, the International Conference for Ancient Studies will be taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and will revolve around the topic of The Mysteries of Ancient Civilisations.
Some of the speakers are expected to make significant announcements during the conference about major discoveries made in 2007 and 2008 in Egypt and South America respectively which could literally require a re-write of history.

Archaeologists have discovered the bones of at least 50 prehistoric people killed in an armed attack in Germany around 1300 BC.
The signs of battle from around 1300 BC were found near Demmin, north of Berlin. They are the first proof of any war north of the Alps during the Bronze Age, said state archaeologist Detlef Jantzen on Thursday.
