Robots roam Mount Etna volcano as part of lunar testing ground

A robot wheels across a rocky, windswept landscape that looks like the surface of some distant planet from a science fiction film. But it is not in outer space, it's on the slopes of Europe's most active volcano.
Mount Etna, in Sicily, is a test bed for the approximately one-metre high, four-wheeled machine ahead of a future mission to the moon. It is being conducted by the German Aerospace Centre, the agency which runs Germany's space programme.

Killer robots: Tech experts warn against AI arms race

More than 1,000 tech experts, scientists and researchers have written a letter warning about the dangers of autonomous weapons.
In the latest outcry over "killer robots", the letter warns that "a military AI [artificial intelligence] arms race is a bad idea".
Among the signatories are scientist Stephen Hawking, entrepreneur Elon Musk and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Largest ever robot fleet will map the UK's oceans

British scientists are hoping robots will be able to give the most detailed picture yet of life deep below the waterline.
The largest ever fleet of robotic submarines is setting of from the Isles of Scilly to explore the ocean depths. The unmanned boats and submarines will travel 500km across an area off the southwestern tip of the UK.
