Zoom on NGC 1052-DF2

Spoiler

This video zooms in from a view of the night sky, through the constellation of Cetus (the Whale), to end on the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope observations of the ultra diffuse galaxy NGC 1052-DF2. This is the first galaxy to be found to not have dark matter.

NGC 1052-DF2 is an ultra-diffuse galaxy in the constellation Cetus. It is thought to contain little or no dark matter, the first such discovery. The distance to the galaxy, derived by surface brightness fluctuation, is 62.0 5.5 kly. Due to close proximity, it is assumed to be associated with the elliptical galaxy NGC 1052 and to lie at a distance of 65 million light-years away
