NGC 7742 (also IRAS 23417+1029, MCG 2-60-10, UGC 12760 and PGC 72260) is a magnitude +11.6 spiral galaxy located 76 million light-years away in the constellation Pegasus.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Datchet, Berkshire, on the 18th October 1784.

Position (J2000): R.A. 23h 44m 15.7s  |  Dec. +10° 46' 01"

The galaxy is unusual in that it contains a ring but no bar. Typically, bars are needed to produce a ring structure.
