IC 1340 (NGC 6995) is part of a large supernova remnant called the Cygnus Loop or Veil.

NGC 6995 (also The Eastern Veil, Caldwell 33 and Ced 182C) is a magnitude +7.0 supernova remnant located 1,470 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus.

The supernova remnant was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflecting telescope at Windsor Road in Slough, Berkshire, on the 7th September 1825. 

Right Ascension 20h 57m 10.0s, Declination +31° 14' 00"

The source supernova exploded some 5,000 to 8,000 years ago, and the remnants have since expanded to cover an area roughly 3 degrees in diameter (about 6 times the diameter, or 36 times the area, of the full moon).
