NGC 6902 (also IC 4948, ESO 285-8, MCG -7-42-2 and PGC 64632) is a magnitude +10.9 barred spiral galaxy located 129 million light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town on the 2nd September 1836. The galaxy was rediscovered by Lewis Swift in September 1897 an relisted as IC 4948.
