NGC 3871 (also IC 2959, MCG 6-26-31, MCG 9-25-16, UGC 6744 and  PGC 36702) is a magnitude +14.8 spiral galaxy located 445 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major.

The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 3rd April 1831.
The galaxy was rediscovered by Stephane Javelle on the 11th June 1896 and relisted as IC 2959.

Right Ascension 11h 46m 10.1s, Declination +33° 06' 34"
