NGC 5842 (also MCG 4-36-3 and PGC 53831) is a magnitude +14.3 face-on compact galaxy located 476 million light-years away in the constellation Boötes. 

The galaxy was discovered by French astronomer Edouard Stephan using a 80.01 cm (31.5 inch) reflecting telescope at the Marseille Observatory on the 11th May 1882.

Right Ascension 15h 04m 52.1s, Declination +21° 04' 13"
