NGC 3986 (also NGC 3966, IRAS 11541+3217, MCG 5-28-53, UGC 6920 and PGC 37544) is a magnitude +12.7 lenticular galaxy located 150 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major.

The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 29th April 1827.
The galaxy was rediscovered by German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 8th May 1864 and relisted as NGC 3966.
