NGC 5040 (also NGC 5040-1, MCG 9-22-31 and PGC 45945) is a magnitude +14.2 spiral galaxy located 345 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 26th April 1789.

Right Ascension 13h 13m 32.6s, Declination +51° 15' 31"
