NGC 5204 (also IRAS 13277+5840, MCG 10-19-78, UGC 8490 and PGC 47368) is a magnitude +11.7 face-on spiral galaxy located 14-14.5 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 45.72 cm (18 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 24th April 1789.

Right Ascension 13h 29m 36.5s, Declination +58° 25' 07"  

The galaxy's most noticeable feature is a very powerful ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) discovered in the early 1980s by the Einstein Observatory and designated NGC 5204 X-1.
