NGC 3309 (also ESO 501-36, MCG -4-25-34 and PGC 31466) is a magnitude +11.6 elliptical galaxy located 187 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra. 

The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at the Cape of Good Hope on the 24th March 1835.

Right Ascension 10h 36m 35.7s, Declination -27° 31' 03"
