NGC 4942 (also IC 4136, IRAS 13017-0723, MCG -1-33-78 and PGC 45177) is a magnitude +13.0 intermediate spiral galaxy located 80 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 23rd March 1789.
The galaxy was rediscovered by DeLisle Stewart in July 1899 and listed as IC 4136.

Right Ascension 13h 04m 19.0s, Declination -07° 38' 56"
