NGC 2742 (also NGC 2816, IRAS 09036+6040, MCG 10-13-57, UGC 4779 and PGC 25640) is a magnitude +11.4 spiral galaxy located 59 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 19th March 1790.
The galaxy was rediscovered by John Herschel in March 1832 and relisted as NGC 2816.

Right Ascension 09h 07m 33.2s, Declination +60° 28' 46"
