NGC 5653 (also IC 1026, IRAS 14280+3126, MCG 5-34-58, UGC 9318 and PGC 51814) is a magnitude +12.1 spiral galaxy located 162 million light-years away in the constellation Boötes.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Datchet, Berkshire, on the 13th March 1785.
The galaxy was rediscovered by Truman Safford in May 1866 and relisted as IC 1026.

Right Ascension 14h 30m 10.3s, Declination Dec +31° 12' 55"
