NGC 2856 (also Arp 285, IRAS 09208+4927, MCG 8-17-93, UGC 4997 and PGC 26648) is a magnitude +13.2 spiral galaxy located 121 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major.
The galaxy is gravitationally interacting with the neighbouring galaxy NGC 2854: these two galaxies are listed as Arp 285 in the Atlas of peculiar galaxies.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 9th March 1788.
