NGC 4542 (also NGC 4537, UGC 7746 MCG 9-21-21 and PGC 41864) is a magnitude +14.4 lenticular galaxy located 547 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici.

The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 17th February 1831.
The galaxy was rediscovered by Lewis Swift in 1884 and relisted as NGC 4537

Right Ascension 12h 34m 49.1s, Declination +50° 48' 20"
