NGC 1740 (also MCG -1-13-46, NPM1G -03.0222 and PGC 16589) is a magnitude +12.9 elliptical galaxy located 188 million light-years away in the constellation Orion.

The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 11th February 1830. 

Right Ascension 05h 01m 54.7s, Declination -03° 17' 45"
