NGC 2280 (also ESO 427-2, MCG -5-16-20, UGCA 131, AM 0642-273, IRAS 06428-2735 and PGC 19531) is a magnitude +10.5 spiral galaxy located 25.236 million parsecs (75 million light-years) away in the constellation Canis Major.

The galaxy was discovered by English astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at the Cape of Good Hope on the 1st February 1837. 

The galaxy hosted supernova 2001fz.

Right Ascension 06h 44m 48.9s, Declination -27° 38' 20"
